"Velvet Buffer"

By: Zack Mcqueen (Pittsburgh, PA)

Late July means the whitetail antler growth only has a few more weeks before they are at full capacity. Finding this 6 year old in an overgrown meadow was a highlight. the yellow wildflowers danced around him as he moved through, with only his light brown velvet peeking out. I was lucky enough that he stopped in an opening and surveyed before continuing his pursuit to his nightly food source.
