Contest Rules

Registration

  • A $300 ($150/individual) team entry fee is required with registration. Each team member must pay the $150 entry fee upon registration.

Requirements/Eligibility

  • Contestants of any age may compete in the Team Air & Friction Challenge. Callers can only register once in Team Air and Friction and compete on one team only. 
  • Contestants must be current members of the NWTF.

When

  • The Team Air & Friction Challenge will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, at 7:30 a.m, in the Governor’s Ballroom.  
  • A mandatory preparation meeting and roll call will begin at 7 a.m. in the Governor’s Ballroom at the front of the stage for all Team Air & Friction Challenge competitors.

Rules of Competition

  • Each team will be given six (6) calls to perform. Three (3) calls must be performed using air and three (3) must be performed using friction. 
  • The team will decide who performs each call, BUT three (3) calls must be performed by each team member. Any caller type within each category (air or friction) may be used.
  • An appointed NWTF representative will verify that each member performs three calls and that each team performs the mandatory three (3) air and three (3) friction calls. A breach in these rules will result in disqualification.
  • The calls will be posted at 5 p.m. the day before the event.
  • The maximum limit for the contest is 35 registered teams.

Time Limits

  • Teams will receive 5 MINUTES to perform all six calls (11/1/23). The clock will begin on the first note of the first call and stop on the acknowledgment of the caller that they are finished with their last call.
  • The NWTF reserves the right to use a clock showing the time remaining. A 3-point penalty will be assessed on the final score of any contestant going over the time limit.

Scoring

  • Judges will score on a 1-20 scale, with 20 as the highest score possible.
  • Scorers will calculate each judge’s score after each caller finishes.
  • The highest and lowest scores from the seven (7) judges will be discarded.
  • The five (5) remaining scores will be calculated for a final score.

**Prizes

  • Prize money will be 80% of the entry fees collected for the division and distributed to the three (3) highest-scoring teams. Trophies will be awarded to the top three (3) finishing teams.
